Supervision & Mentoring for Coaches
Regular supervision is a vital part of maintaining high standards in coaching, helping you stay grounded, resourced, and aligned with your professional values. Coach Supervision provides a reflective space for coaches to explore their practice, develop their skills, and maintain ethical, effective coaching.
Alongside supervision, mentor coaching is invaluable both for those who are newer to coaching and working towards accreditation, and for more experienced coaches to continue enhancing their coaching skills. Mentor Coaching helps develop coaching competencies, build confidence, and deepening your personal coaching style.

Why Consider Mentor Coaching?
According to the ICF. the goal of mentor coaching is to:
“Provide professional assistance in achieving and demonstrating the levels of coaching competency and capability demanded by the desired credential level.”
Although mentor coaching is necessary to achieve accreditation with the ICF (for example, 10 hours at ACC level over 3 months, with at least 3 hours one-to-one), it is also a useful part of any coach’s continual professional development.
Even highly qualified and experienced coaches benefit from reviewing their coaching sessions with a colleague and critiquing against their coaching model and the competencies required by their accrediting body.
What Is Mentor Coaching?
Mentor coaching is a structured process where you work with an experienced, ICF-credentialed coach to develop and refine your coaching skills in alignment with the ICF Core Competencies and, for higher levels, the PCC Markers. It is not general supervision, business strategy, or personal coaching—its purpose is specifically to improve the quality of your coaching practice.
Mentor coaching typically includes reviewing recorded coaching sessions and receiving targeted feedback from a mentor coach, or coaching in a group and receiving feedback (for the mentor coach, your coachee AND the coaches observing) as well as observing others coaches and providing feedback to them.
It involves:
-
Identifying strengths and growth areas aligned to ICF standards
-
Deepening coaching presence, listening, and questioning competencies
-
Refining behaviours needed for successful performance evaluation
-
Supporting your development in line with your own coaching model or approach
-
Supporting ethical and professional decision making
The ICF defines mentor coaching as development focused on competency, not the session content - so the emphasis is on how you coach, not on the issues you’re coaching about.
Our Supervision & Mentoring Helps With...
What supervisees say
The mentor coaching sessions were an invaluable part of my professional development – and accreditation – and Neil really helped me see my coaching sessions from different perspectives, and become more aware of the choices I have in how I coach my clients.
Working with Neil was a great experience and worth every invested penny. Our mentor coaching day offered everything you might need or expect from a learning experience - safety, humanity, trust and challenge. My goal going into the day was to improve as a coach. I wanted to reflect on my practice and receive constructive feedback against the ICF competencies, which I got. I feel like I am a more confident and professional coach thanks to the space we had on the day. I am more ready for the PCC application than I ever was.
How Much Mentor Coaching Do I Need for ICF Accreditation?
If you're working towards professional accreditation with the International Coaching Federation (ICF), mentor coaching is a mandatory part of the credentialing process. Whether you’re applying for ACC (Associate Certified Coach) or PCC (Professional Certified Coach), the core requirement is the same: You need a total of 10 hours of mentor coaching.
This applies to both first-time credential applications and for ACC credential renewal.
How the 10 Hours Must Be Structured
-
Total hours required - 10 hours (ACC & PCC)
-
Minimum individual coaching - At least 3 hours 1:1
-
Group coaching allowed - Up to 7 hours, group size max 10
-
Timeframe - Must take place over at least 3 months
This structure is designed to support real development and integration rather than a quick check-box process.
Internal reference: You'll link this to the mentor coaching requirement page on the ICF site.
Do I Need Mentor Coaching for ACC Renewal?
Yes. To renew your ACC credential, you must complete another 10 hours of mentor coaching as part of your renewal cycle.
